FIRST Robotics

FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology." It was founded by Dean Kamen in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology and is headquartered in Manchester, NH. The mission of this organization is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering, and technology skills, inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership.  FIRST has programs for students from Kindergarten to adult age.

One of their programs is called FIRST Robotics competition. The first FIRST Robotics competition was in 1992 with only 28 teams competing in a New Hampshire high school gym. Today the competition reaches to involve almost 250,000 young people. It is for high school age students, and it is the program we are a part of.
